Creative Colour: All You Need To Know

Let's Get Creative at Wiles Hairdressers in Northampton!

Are you ready to break the mould and express yourself through bold, imaginative hair colour? Whether you're dreaming of dreamy pastels, vibrant fashion shades, or a bespoke multi-tonal masterpiece, creative colour opens the door to endless possibilities. At Wiles Studios in Northampton, we love helping clients push the boundaries and explore exciting new looks through personalised colour services.

But before you dive into the world of creative colour, there are a few important things to know – including how we keep your hair (and health) safe with essential allergy alert testing.

What Is Creative Hair Colour?

Creative colour goes beyond traditional blondes and brunettes. It’s about experimenting with bold colour choices, from vivid reds and purples to soft lilacs, icy blues, or multi-dimensional blends of several tones. Whether you want a full head transformation, a colourful balayage, hidden panels, or a rainbow fringe, creative colour allows you to express your individuality and stand out from the crowd.

Our talented colour experts at Wiles Studios are skilled in working with all types of colour techniques, and we’ll work with you to design a look that complements your skin tone, personal style, and lifestyle.

What to Expect at Your Colour Appointment

Creative colour is often a multi-step process, particularly if your hair needs lightening first. Your journey may include:

  • A detailed consultation to understand your hair goals and assess your hair’s condition.
  • Pre-lightening (if required) to create a blank canvas.
  • Application of your chosen creative colour or bespoke blend.
  • Professional aftercare advice to help maintain your colour at home.

Depending on your starting point, you may need more than one session to achieve your dream result – but don’t worry, we’ll guide you every step of the way.

Allergy Alert Testing – Your Safety Comes First

Before any colour appointment at Wiles Studios, including creative colour, you must have an up-to-date allergy alert test. This is a vital part of our safety policy and ensures that your skin doesn’t react to any of the colour products we use.

We offer two options for testing:

Colourstart Patch Test (PPD test):

This is a CE-marked, independently tested, and MHRA-licensed patch test that can be ordered online and applied at home. You’ll need to complete a short online health screening questionnaire and apply the test patch to your arm 5 days before your appointment.

In-Salon Colour Sensitivity Test:

Visit us in salon at least 48 hours before your appointment and we’ll apply a small amount of colour behind your ear. For full details on the testing process and how to order your Colourstart test, visit our Skin Testing Policy page.
